About the Project
The Berg Copper Project is one of the largest undeveloped copper and molybdenum deposits in Canada. It sits 80 kilometres southwest of Houston, British Columbia, in the Bulkley Nechako region and within the Wet’suwet’en Yintah.
Copper is what electrification runs on: grids, motors, batteries, buildings. Molybdenum is the quieter half of the deposit and just as useful, going into the specialty steels and alloys behind bridges, pipelines, aircraft and medical equipment. Demand and the need for both is rising while new supply is not keeping pace. Berg is one of the few Canadian deposits of its size that could help close that gap.
Surge Copper Corp. is proposing an open pit mine that would produce copper and molybdenum, with silver and gold as by-products. As currently designed, the Project includes an open pit, a processing plant, a tailings and waste management facility, waste rock storage, workforce accommodation and a new 230 kilovolt transmission line connecting the site to the BC Hydro grid. Access would use existing forest service roads to Highway 16.

Coming soonWhere the Project is
The transmission line route is not final. Surge is studying corridor options and the route will be refined through technical study and through what we hear from communities and First Nations during the assessment.
The Project lies within the Wet'suwet'en Yintah (traditional lands) and Cheslatta Carrier Nation territories. For more information see How we work.
